Type Appliances
Composition types are mainly effective at the material level and at the formal level of a composition. Their interrelationship can be homogeneous or contradictory.
Material Level

The composition type is mentally effective, if the composition type is directly applied at the level of the musical material.

Example: Although a song is formally characterized by a high number of iterations, the mental character of a song can be very choleric.
Composition Level

The composition type is formally effective, if the composition type is applied at the level of the compositional form.

Example: The overall mental character of a composition may be very introverted, although its formal structure is very sophisticated and implies interactions of various layers that are typical for the "Story" type.
Type Combinations

Composition types are naturally often combined at the material or at the composition level. Usually one of the types of such a combination is dominating the others.

Example: A "Fractal" composition may progress through various phases that have their own material characteristics, thus implying the "Serial" form type.
Meta Types

Collections of compositions may have characteristics of a composition type as well.

Example: Completely different characters of movements of a symphony imply the "Story" type.
Collections
Collections of compositions are arranged according to musical cultural conventions, artistic conceptions, or considerations of public distribution.
Cycles

A cycle is usually a well-balanced collection of a limited number of movements that appear in a defined order and that are treated as one opus (usually performed at once).

Examples: Symphony, Sonata, Solo Concert, String Quartet, Suite, Serenade, Variation cycles, Opera.
Albums

Albums are broader collections of compositions that usually belong to a similar composition type. Albums are bundled for the purpose of publishing (books, CDs) and seldom performed at once.

Examples: Song cycles, Preludes and Fugues, book of Sonatas.
Exhibitions

Exhibitions are assemblies of compositions, cycles and albums, that are dedicated to a certain author, or subject, or any other criteria of comprehensive public presentation.

Examples: Overviews of publishing houses offers, CD catalogues, categorized CD blocks in a CD store, Internet collections organized by stylistic categories, private collections.
Concerts / Guided Tours

Musical presentations in the form of public events can be dedicated to a certain cycle, album, exhibition, or expose a specific selection within a very large field of composition resources.

Examples: Opera performance, concert of a singer's ensemble presenting music from different centuries, sound installations, piano recital, Jazz session, Techno night.
