Ex Machina: Tangent

Computer compositions by a group of European composers in 1995. The focus here is Ludger Bruemmer's 'Dele!' (1995), which was based on 'Cri' from 1995 and, like 'Cri', uses the transformed and abstracted sounds of playing and shouting children. Also on this CD: Dirk Reith's 'verSTIMMUNG' (1995), Javier Alejandro Garavaglia's 'Arte Poetica (I)' (1995), Ralf Ollertz's 'Cral'une' (1995), Friedhelm Hartmann's 'Portraits of a Woman (Parts 2 and 3)' (1995), and Gerald Eckert's 'Diaphane' (1995).

A collection of diverse electro-acoustic music from Germany. Neuhaus processes, distorts, sequences sounds of his infant son's voice. Ikramova offers a highly unusual disassembly of female vocal sounds, regarding them from a multitude of angles. Bornhoft creates a wide range of textures on an analog synthesizer. Compositions include Achim Christian Bornhoft's 'artificial cliches', Anna Ikramova's 'Einstimming', Marcus Antonius Wesselmann's 'In the Mix', Thomas Neuhaus' '5 Kleine Stucke Uber Die Kleinen Laute Eines Kleinen Menschen', and Kilian Schwoon's 'Orpheus and Demokrit - Eine Klaviermusik Mit Tonband'.

A compilation of electroacoustical works by German composers. Hans Mittendorf-Labiche's 'Gesang der Winde' (1993), composed with at CCMIX in Paris, addresses the continuum of pitch to noise. Hartmut Jentzsch's 'bleistift music' (1999) was created by rubbing and wiping small objects to which small contact microphones have been attached. Hiromi Ishii's 'Dreaming Stones' (1999) draws upon highly processed sounds of Japanese stones to create shimmering, metalic sounds that are quite beautiful. George Katzer's 'Die Landschaft von Vineta' (1998) is a soundscape-like programmatic work about a town that vanished into the sea. Frank Schweizer's 'Beginner's Mind' (1997) is also a programmatic work that traces a young child's development of language, from breath sounds to song. Also included are Tilmann Claus' '... woraus Bewegung fliesst ... Giordano Bruno' (1992), Gunter Heinz's 'keep on the move' (1998), and Inge Morgenroth's 'Requiem fur ein Schwein' (1997). This CD was produced by DeGEM (German Association for Electronic Music).
