Note: By default, sounds are animated. This means that they replay themselves in various ways until they will be stopped again.

Note: Depending on the Sound Page (usually with 'Figures' sound types), another already playing sound control may stop at the same time.

Click again play control - Button turns into :
The corresponding sound will stop.

Note: Usually a sound decay (fade out) is built in, so it may take some time until the sound will stop completely.

Note: The play controls are also used in broader control assemblies. There, pre-defined sequences and complete tracks may be executed instead of one specific sound.

Click stop control:
All four Animated Sounds at the left side will stop simultaneously.

Note: Usually a sound decay (fade out) is built in, so it may take some time until the sounds will stop completely.

Animated Sounds

How to control rich and networked sound parameter operations in real-time.

Left-click - Mute button turns into unmuted status:
Sound starts to play at the current cursor position.

Note: If you see at least one red highlighted Hypersound link at the sound graphics, the sound is being animated and the animation mode is enabled (see next section below).

Note: Most sounds are set to animated mode by default. Once you started the sound, the animation mode will be activated and the sound will continue to play automatically according to its internal scheduled Hypersound links.

Note: The color of the sound graphics indicates the approximate pitch height: Blue = deep tones, Green = middle tones, Red = high tones (see spectra above).

Right-click anywhere in the graphics - Loop button is off:
Sound stops to play.

Important: If the sound is animated and you want to stop the sound completely, you need to click the Mute button first and then right-click into the graphics.

Note: Usually a sound decay (fade out) is built in, so it may take some time until the sounds will stop completely. During this time, the upper play controls are grayed and cannot be executed.

Right-click - Loop button is on:
Sound starts to re-play at the first cursor position of the loop. The loop end position is determined by the cursor position of the mouse.

-> For programming background information of Animated Sounds and Hypersound functionality visit the Sound Café.

Click - Hypersound link box second from the left upper corner of the graphics:
This Hypersound link links to a neighbored sound that will start to play at a pre-defined cursor position.

Note: The number of neighbored sounds attached to a sound may differ. Clicking again and again will let you scroll through the whole set till the first sound is reached again.

Click - Hypersound link box at the right upper corner of the graphics:
This Hypersound link links randomly to one of the neighbored sounds (see above) that will start to play at a pre-defined cursor position.

Right-click - Red Hypersound link box - Will change to gray :
The automated schedule of the link will be disabled and no automatic link action will occur.

Note: A red Hypersound link box indicates that its link is being scheduled for automated execution. After its action will occur its color will change to gray. After restarting the sound (see above) the color will be shown in red again indicating that the Hypersound link schedule is being re-enabled.

Note: If mute is set the schedule of the link is set on hold. The link automation will be re-activated once mute is disabled again .

Note: If you want to disable all automated Hypersound links at once, click the Stop button as described in the Play Controls chapter above.

Right-click again - Gray Hypersound link box - Will change to red if an automated schedule is pre-defined:
The automated schedule of the link will be enabled. An automated link action will occur if mute is disabled .

Click - Button turns into pause symbol:
Sound starts to play (or continues to play after pause) at the current cursor position.

Important: If mute is enabled no sound will be heard. Mute will not be automatically disabled, unlike when clicking into the sound graphics (see above).

Note: If during play the sound reaches its end and the loop is not activated (see below), the sound will stop automatically.

Click again - Button turns into play symbol:
Sound pauses.

Note: Usually a sound decay (fade out) is built in, so it may take some time until the sounds will stop completely. During this time, the upper play controls are grayed and cannot be executed.

Note: If the sound is animated and you want to stop the sound completely, you need to click the Mute button first and then click the play button.

Click - Button turns into :
Sound changes into continuous loop mode.

Note: Loop start point is determined by the last left-click into the sound graphics and can be changed this way again during play. If no click has been set, the loop start point is taken from an internal pre-setting. If no internal pre-setting is given, the loop start point is set to the beginning of the sound.

Note: Loop end point is determined by the last right-click into the sound graphics and can be changed this way again during play. If no click has been set, the loop end point is taken from an internal pre-setting. If no internal pre-setting is given, the loop end point is set to the end of the sound.

Link To Page

OO
OO

'Link To Page' is used with a typical four pages sound session.

Note: You can use the :: symbol to open a four pages sound session (see Sound Page Elements above), or the 'Navigator' project menu as supplied through the portal pages.

The feature allows to load related sound assemblies into each of the existing four sound frames without re-loading the whole page.

The benefits are:

o Loading a related sound frame eases the way to enlarge the musical reach of a session.

o The tools opened in the left menus of the Sound Pages are not being touched.

o It becomes now also easier to create your own Sound Pages using the check box of the Animated Sounds together with the Page Builder (see above).

o Offline only: Recorded sequences of sounds from former frames are loaded into the actual opened frames during real-time play as well. This allows to create real-time sessions that can make use of the complete sound repository at once.

Warning: Don't change a sound frame or reload a Sound Page during a real-time session since it will interrupt the current performance. In order to perform sounds from different sound frames, record them separately into independent play controls, and play them later together in one session (offline only).

-> For more information on how to record with the Reef Recorder visit the local help accessible through the portal pages.

-> For more information on how to use enhanced play possibilities with the Reef Recorder see the Play Controls above.

The standard order of Sound Pages in a four pages sound session is:

OO
OO

Left upper corner: 'Figures' type Sound Page.

Note: Sound types can have names that differ from the generic 'Figures' name. In order to know the generic name of a Sound Page, notice the file name of the URL displayed in your browser address bar.

The 'Figures' type Sound Page holds the 'Link To Page' listings with the links to related sound frames, sorted by the sound type frames (clockwise: upper left, upper right, lower right, lower left). It is accessible by the ! symbol displayed at the bottom of the Sound Page (see Sound Page Elements above).

Click a sound frame link displayed in the left upper corner section:
Another 'Figures' type sound frame will be loaded into the same 'Figures' type Sound Page that holds the 'Link To Page' listings.

Note: Any new 'Figures' type sound frame will hold a different set of related 'Link To Page' sound frames depending on musical similarity and other matching criteria.

OO
OO

Right upper corner: 'Xpressions' type Sound Page.

Click a sound frame link displayed in the right upper corner section:
Another 'Xpressions' type sound frame will be loaded into the right upper corner Sound Page frame.

Note: If the 'Xpressions' type Sound Page is located in another corner, the frame will be opened at the different location of that Sound Page.

Note: Pages may appear in different corners when using automated tiling of the browser pages (Control-T with Maxthon 1.x). It is recommended to always position the Sound Pages in the recommended order as described here.

Warning: Make sure that the 'Xpressions' type Sound Page is opened when clicking the sound frame link.

Warning: Make sure that you don't have a second 'Xpressions' type Sound Page open at the same time.

Note: If you have a second Sound Page of the same type open at the same time, you still can use all interactive play functions as described in the Animated Sounds section above. However, play controls as described in the Play Controls section above cannot be used in this case.
